Deutsche Post World Net has won the “DuPont Safety Award 2008” in the category Innovative Approachfor its Group-wide safety initiative called Global Road Safety.
The company launched its Global Road Safety initiative last year in order to raise awarenessof the varied challenges and the potential hazards associated with road traffic. It includes theDPWN Road Safety Code, a list of seven rules of the road symbolised by seven comic figures called “superheroes” and publicised in a global internal information campaign. The initiative aims tomotivate employees to behave more safely when they are on the roads.
DPWN said it has managed to significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents thanks tothe Global Road Safety initiative.
“It is a great pleasure and honour for us to receive the DuPont Safety Award. As a globalleader in logistics, traffic safety is obviously very important to us,” commented Walter Scheurle,responsible for Personnel on the Group Board of Management of DPWN.
“We use the DuPont Safety Awards to recognise pioneering projects and initiatives in aworking environment as well as in the wider community,” explains Ian Hudson, president, DuPontEurope, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “Global Road Safety is an extraordinary and innovativeconcept, which Deutsche Post has used to significantly raise the awareness of employees throughoutthe world in one of the Group’s central safety issues.”
In 2003, Deutsche Post won a similar award by DuPont for an internal safety programme.
