FedEx Express yesterday launched its domestic next-business-day services in Mexico operated byFedEx Express Nacional, the company’s domestic overnight unit in the country. In addition, the
company opened its new operational centre for domestic shipments, the Toluca Hub Multiplex.The move follows domestic service launches in China, India and the UK and is the firstdomestic service FedEx offers in Latin America.
The service covers all 32 Mexican states with the support of two new operational centres inToluca (Multiplex) and San Luis Potosi, the latter to open in early 2009.
FedEx Express Nacional will offer two main products featuring delivery to any address inMexico, online tracking and tracing, and backed by the money-back guarantees. These are FedExExpress Nacional 10:30 AM (FedEx Priority Overnight), offering next-business-day delivery by 10:30for documents and parcels weighing up to 68 kg, and FedEx Express Nacional DÃa Siguiente (FedExStandard Overnight), providing delivery of items of up 68kg by the end of the next business day.
FedEx Express Nacional is expected to initially create more than 180 jobs in operations,planning, engineering, sales and customer service, adding to the 1,100 currently employed at FedExExpress Mexico.
The company began its domestic express operations yesterday from the Toluca Hub Multiplex.The new facility has the capacity to process 6,000 shipments per hour with 48 new employees. FedExexpects the sorting capacity and the number of employees to increase during the next few years.
Toluca Hub Multiplex is the FedEx Express domestic service distribution centre in Mexico’sFederal District metropolitan area and measures 3,780 sqm. It is located close to the two largestindustrial parks in Toluca. Toluca Hub Multiplex is modern, 100%-automated and leveragesleading-edge technology that allows for faster operations and accuracy.

To support the FedEx Express Nacional service, the company will also leverage existinginfrastructure throughout Mexico, including operational facilities in Toluca, Guadalajara andMonterrey. Guadalajara has the capacity to process up to 2,500 packages per hour and Monterrey upto 1,100 packages and 1,450 documents per hour.
The express shipping market in Mexico is valued at $822 million and is projected to grow to$1.5 billion in the next 10 years, according to the Mexican Civil Parcel and Shipping Association.
