Russian Post and Microsoft Rus, the Russian subsidiary of the global Microsoft Corporation, havesigned a cooperation agreement to modernise the outdated IT infrastructure of the Russian public
postal operator.The deal is part of Russian Post’s three-year programme to reduce losses and to moderniseinfrastructure and services. The modernisation programme was announced by Russian Post CEO AndrejKazmin in April this year.
Under the agreement, the two companies will implement several projects in key areas thatinclude among others developing IT solutions for monitoring electronic resources, establishing aunified e-mail service as well as exchanging technological and marketing information. The importantsteps include creation of software for information telecommunications infrastructure that comprisescomponents designed for carrying out applied software operations.
“Russian Post with its huge diversified branch network is facing a difficult task of unifyingcommunication processes. The cooperation with Microsoft within the current agreement gives us agreat opportunity to optimize the IT infrastucture,” said Andrej Pogodin, the deputy managingdirector of Russian Post.
When realizing common projects within the scope of the new partnership, Russian Post hopes toprofit from the long time experience Microsoft has gained during the years of successful work inthe public sector and with the major global players in the postal industry.
“The new agreement will help implement modern IT solutions in Russian postal offices andconsiderably enhance the quality of the customer services”, added Birger Sten, managing director ofMicrosoft Rus.
Russian Post, with a network of 42,000 post offices and 415,000 employees, handles more than1.5 billion letters and 48 million parcels every year.
