Senior executive changes were announced during July and August at DHL, TNT, UPS and Aramex whilethe Universal Postal Union leadership was re-elected.
France’s Edouard Dayan and China’s Guozhong Huang were re-elected unopposed and byacclamation at the 24th Universal Postal Congress in Geneva to the positions of Director Generaland Deputy Director General of the Universal Postal Union’s International Bureau for the period2009-2012. First elected at the 2004 Bucharest Congress, Dayan and Huang were the sole candidatesfor the positions.
Hans Hickler was named CEO of DHL Global Customer Solutions, responsible for the customerrelationship management of the group’s largest customers worldwide. He is also Chairman of the DHLGlobal commercial board, which was set up recently to address, solve and leverage commercialpriorities for all DHL’s business units. Hickler, who will be based in Plantation, Florida, mostrecently served as CEO of DHL Express USA, but was replaced by Ken Allen in May this year.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Alan Cassels, former Chief of DHL Korea, will become head ofthe DHL office in the UK. Chris Callen, Vice President of domestic express for Asia Pacific since2006, will take over the position as Country Manager of DHL Express Korea. Ali Thabet has beenappointed National Marketing Manager for DHL Express Saudi Arabia, with responsibility to developand implement a strategy aimed at enhancing DHL’s position in the Middle East.
There were several appointments at TNT Express in Germany. Roland Schütze has been appointedManaging Director Sales, Marketing & Customer Service, replacing Thomas Kraus who was named CEOat the beginning of 2007. Markus Gehmeyr took up the post of Director of Communications whileJürgen Marx was named Director Human Resources. Frank Mueller joined the management of TNT InnightGermany as Managing Director Finance & Administration. In Chile, Pablo Escobar Rodriguez wasnamed new Manager of TNT’s Special Services unit. Rodriguez will be responsible for a consistencyof the unit’s structure with the company’s worldwide standards.
At UPS, Gonzala Barreiro has been appointed Commercial Manager of UPS in Argentina, Uruguayand Paraguay.
Raji Hattar took up the post as Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer of the MiddleEast-based express and freight logistics group Aramex. Hattar will lead the company’s ambitiousCorporate Social Responsibility strategy and will be directly responsible for monitoring Aramex’sparticipation in the UN Global Compact Initiative and other international human developmenttreaties.
