FedEx Express will step up its selective expansion into domestic express and parcel markets aroundthe world with the launch of nationwide services within Mexico.
As of October 6, the company will introduce FedEx Express Nacional as a domesticnext-business-day service providing highly reliable, convenient and quality express shippingsolutions across Mexico. The move follows domestic service launches in China, India and the UK, andis the first FedEx domestic service offering in Latin America.
FedEx Express Nacional will offer two main products featuring delivery to any address inMexico, online tracking and tracing, and backed by the money-back guarantees. These are FedExExpress Nacional 10:30 AM, offering next-business-day delivery by 10:30 for documents and parcelsweighing up to 68 kg, and FedEx Express Nacional Día Siguiente, providing delivery of items of up68kg by the end of the next business day.
FedEx Express Nacional will initially create more than 180 jobs in operations, planning,engineering, sales and customer service, adding to the 1,000 currently employed at FedEx ExpressMexico.
FedEx said the operational hubs for FedEx Express Nacional will be located in Toluca and inSan Luis Potosí but did not provide further operational details about domestic flights or grounddistribution. According to CNN Expansión, FedEx will use a fleet of five cargo planes operating 23weekly flights along with a ground fleet of 247 vehicles. According to the company’s online LatinAmerica factsheet, it operates international flights to Monterrey (five weekly services with twoB727s), Toluca and Guadalajara (six weekly MD10 flights each), and Cancún/Mérida (five weeklyConvair services).
