TNT expands in Vietnam with new Hanoi hub

TNT Express today opened its new TNT International and Domestic Operations Centre, North in Hanoi,Vietnam, under its ambitious growth plans for the Southeast Asia region.



Designed to handle heavy freight, the new facility is part of TNT’s strategy to leverage thesoaring demand for freight express services between Vietnam, the rest of Southeast Asia, China andEurope to grow its business in the region. Located in the ICD My Dinh, Tu Liem District in theVietnamese capital, the new facility spans 1,200 sqm and employs 90 full-time staff who will managethe operations of the facility 24/7.

Shipments passing through Vietnam will be consolidated and processed at the TNT International and Domestic Operations Centre in Hanoi before making their way northwards to Chinaand southwards to Singapore via the Asia Road Network for subsequent airlift to Europe and Chinarespectively, using TNT’s Boeing 747-400 ER Freighter that flies between Singapore, Shanghai andLiege three times a week.

The new facility is part of a €1 million investment in Hanoi, which in turn forms part of thecompany’s Southeast Asia-wide investment of €100 million over the next five years to build aleadership position in the region.
 
Onno Boots, regional managing director, TNT Southeast Asia, said: “As Vietnam isstrategically located as the link between China and Southeast Asia on our Asia Road Network, thecompletion of the TNT International and Domestic Operations Centre, North in Hanoi is an integralpart of TNT’s growth strategy in the region. More than 40% of volumes to and from TNT Vietnam willpass through the new centre while growth expected to be in the high double digit range for the nextfive years as it facilitates seamless integration between our air and road networks.”

He added: “With the new International and Domestic Operations Centre in Hanoi, TNT will nowhave the capacity to handle four times its current load of both international and domestic freightunder one roof while leveraging the Asia Road Network. This timely development will also ensurethat TNT is well-placed and -equipped to support the growth of Hanoi – that is fast attracting biginvestments from global brand names – and its development as a high-tech hub in the region. It isthe first in a series of upcoming developments we have lined up for Vietnam to gear up for thefuture.” 
 
TNT said that having recently completed a detailed study of growth opportunities in theregion, it is fast executing its aggressive expansion plans to meet its ambitious growth targets.The International and Domestic Operations Centre in Hanoi is the third facility to be opened injust three months, following TNT’s new international and domestic road hub in Bangkok, Thailand andthe Singapore Country Depot.

These enhancements to TNT’s infrastructure in the region are set to provide customers withthe widest range of multimodal freight services between Southeast Asia, China and Europe and withinSoutheast Asia and seamless, one-stop-shop solutions that meet all their needs, regardless of thetype and scale of the shipment. They are also part of TNT’s plan to establish a leadership positionby strengthening its network coverage, connectivity and infrastructure.

To integrate and align both key stakeholders and TNT’s operations with these targets, TNT hasappointed Mariken Kruijff as director of strategy implementation. Mariken will focus on translatingTNT’s identified growth drivers into plans that will increase volumes and fuel TNT’s growth in asustainable way over the next five years.
