FedEx chief Fred Smith rules out McCain VP role

FedEx founder and CEO Fred Smith has ruled out becoming the vice-presidential running mate ofRepublican candidate John McCain.



US media have speculated widely in recent weeks that Smith might be selected by McCain as theparty’s vice-presidential candidate in a move to profit from his successful entrepreneurialexperience creating and developing FedEx over the past 35 years.

But in a statement issued last week, FedEx declared that Fred Smith “has no interest inpursuing political office under any circumstance. He is fully engaged in running FedEx andcontinues to enjoy the many challenges and opportunities of growing the business globally.”
