Top express companies including DHL, FedEx, UPS and TNT have furtherincreased their fuel surcharges for air express shipments in August as a result of dramaticallyrising oil prices around the world.
DHL Express hiked its US air express and international fuel surchargeto 36.5% for the 3 – 30 August period compared to 34.5% in July.
In Europe, DHL currently has an air express surcharge of 20% which isthe same as in July. In Asia Pacific, DHL’s fuel surcharge has risen from 26.5% in July to 27% inAugust.
FedEx Express increased its fuel surcharge for US domestic, import andexport shipments to 34.5% for the 4-31 August period from a previous 32.5% in July. In Europe,Middle East, India and Africa (EMEA), the FedEx fuel surcharge remained the same in July with20%.
In Asia, where its surcharges vary by country, the August exportshipment fuel surcharge in Singapore is 25.5%, up from 24.5% in July. The import shipment fuelsurcharge for August is 27.5%, up from 26.5% in July. In Hong Kong, the FedEx fuel surcharge forexports and imports is 25.5% for August, up from 24.5% in July.
UPS has increased its US domestic and international air express fuelsurcharge to 34.5% effective August 4 from the previous 32.5% applied in July. In Europe, UPS hikedits fuel surcharge for express and expedited shipments to 21% from August 4 onwards from theprevious level of 20% in July. In Asia, the UPS package service fuel surcharge went up to 27.5% onAugust 4 from 24.5% in July.
TNT Express increased its European fuel surcharge to 23% for 4-31August period from 21.5% in July. In the UK, where it has different fuel surcharges, the globalexpress surcharge went up to 14.5% in August from 13% in July. The separate UK domestic and economyexpress surcharge increased to 7% in August compared to the July figure of 6.5%. In the rest of theworld (excluding the Americas), the TNT surcharge remains for August as it was in July at27%.
