Japan Post and France’s La Poste have signed an in-depth cooperation agreement focusing on mutualdistribution of export shipments in Europe and Japan, Japanese media reported today.
Japan Post Service CEO Norio Kitamura and La Poste CEO Jean-Paul Bailly signed a three-yearagreement, effective until 2011, at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday, news agency Jiji Press reported.
Starting in October, the two national postal operators will offer distribution servicesbetween Japan and Europe using the networks of their respective logistics units. The two companieshave exchanged information on postal services and personnel so far.
Japan Post Sankyu Global Logistics Co., a joint venture between Japan Post Service and majorlogistics service provider Sankyu Inc., and GeoPost, will take charge of the joint services fortransportation of small cargo shipments between businesses and inventory control for corporatecustomers.
Cooperation will focus on European distribution of Japan Post export shipments throughGeoPost’s network in 32 countries, according to the Nikkei Report. At the same time, the ExpressMail Service from France to Japan, which has been suspended since 1991, will be resumed next yearto boost transactions between the two countries.
Japan Post and La Poste will also search together for ways to effectively use electricvehicles in their operations, Jiji Press added.
