DHL has selected TDG Aerospace, a manufacturer of the most advanced and cost-effective safetysolutions for the commercial aviation industry, to equip the Boeing 757 fleet with the UFI®
Electrical Fault Detection Systems as a means of compliance with new Federal AviationAdministration airworthiness directive.TDG’s patented UFI® is a single compact unit that fulfills all required functionalities ofthe latest B757 airworthiness directive, including automatic shut-off for the center tank fuelpumps and installation of secondary pump control relays.
TDG claims that the fault detection system protects aircraft electrical systems andcomponents from faults in critical areas, such as fuel boost pump motors and related wiring. Infuel boost pump applications, TDG’s UFI® device provides comprehensive electrical fault protectionand fuel boost pump automatic shut-off for center tank fuel systems. Additionally, the UFI® unitprovides a redundant relay solution to prevent un-commanded operation of the pump in the event of afailed control relay.
“Basically, every incident due to unsafe conditions of the fuel tanks is one too many”, saidPeter Bulckaert, managing director of European Air Transport, DHL’s Airline for Europe, and part ofthe Middle East and Northern Africa. “Safety is everything at EAT. In addition to implementing thesystems we are providing further training for aircraft engineers and maintenance crews, as we wantfuel tank safety to become second nature at our airline.”
