Parcelnet, the UK home delivery specialist owned by Germany’s Otto Group, has acquired the courierbusiness of TNT Post taking over the delivery of more than 12.5 million parcels a year to
strengthen the company’s network. The move follows the acquisition of the Redcats courier businesslast year.Under the agreement, Parcelnet has integrated TNT Post’s nationwide courier operationsincluding the long-term home delivery contract with online retailer JD Williams into its existingUK business enhancing the company’s network in terms of size and throughput.
The extended network size increasing to 7,000 lifestyle couriers makes courier rounds evenmore local. It has strengthened Parcelnet’s presence in London and the south-east of Englandenabling the company to introduce enhanced services in the future. In addition, Parcelnet has takenon 100 full-time employees that previously held field, support and management roles within TNTPost. It is now TNT’s preferred home delivery partner.

Under the agreement of Redcats acquisition last year, Parcelnet handles the home deliveryservice for Redcats’ UK brands including La Redoute, Empire Stores, Vertbaudet and Daxon. Inaddition, it works with companies of all sizes including many of the leading high-street, catalogueand online retailers within the UK such as Next Directory, Readers Digest, Lakeland Limited andBoden. The company handles over 120 million parcel deliveries and returns collections annually andhas 3 sortation hubs, 16 regional depots and 135 sub-depots. There are thought to be around 5500self-employed couriers working under the Parcelnet umbrella and the company now employs over 1200people across the country.
