TNT builds up Italian hub at Bologna

TNT is adding capacity at its Italian air hub at Bologna and improving links with Sicily with theintroduction of a new B737 on its Liege-Bologna-Catania route.



The B737, which entered service at the end of May, increases air capacity to and from Italyby 60%, TNT Express Italy announced.

The express operator’s regional area manager Roberto Savocchi said the new service linkedthree areas showing strong growth, and would benefit Italian exporters in sectors such asautomotive, textiles and time-sensitive products.

Bologna, with four TNT planes and 1,700 flights a year, is TNT’s main air hub in Italy. In2007, TNT flew nearly 7,500 tonnes through the hub, which was about 44% of the airport’s totalcargo volumes. The operator has 40 staff at the hub, and expects to add more jobs there this yearif growth rates continue.

“We will continue to invest to support double-digit growth in interesting areas,” Savocchicommented. TNT’s total Italian air fleet comprises six aircraft.
