UPS to build new healthcare logistics facility in Netherlands

UPS today announced that it is building a new facility at Roermond in the Netherlands inanticipation of growing customer demand for healthcare logistics in Europe.



The new multi-client distribution centre will measure 20,000 sqm and is scheduled to becompleted in the first quarter of 2009. Further terms of the investment were not disclosed.

“We are expanding our capabilities in Europe to fulfill the growing supply chain needs ofpharmaceutical, medical device and medical equipment companies,” said Bill Bundy, Vice President,Distribution & Logistics Services, UPS Europe. “This is excellent news for our customers as wecan now help healthcare companies establish or improve their European business and become morecompetitive.”

The company’s new healthcare distribution centre will be located on the UPS Supply ChainSolutions European logistics campus in Roermond, in the province of Limburg. The new building willprovide healthcare-compliant inventory management, temperature-sensitive storage and qualityassurance to link with UPS’s pan-European and global freight and express package transportationnetwork.

The expansion adds a fourth building to the existing logistics campus that currently totalsnearly 80,000 sqm of warehousing space. As many as 200 new jobs may be created once the facility isfully operational.

UPS offers a comprehensive range of services including multi-client and single clientwarehousing, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping, product testing and reverselogistics, in addition to critical spare parts distribution.
