UPS to invest EUR 10.5 million in facility expansion in USA

UPS has announced a $16.5 million (€10.5 million) expansion of the Ft. Myers facility in its SouthFlorida District in order to accommodate growth and economic development in the southwest Florida

region.

The existing sorting facility will be extended by some 30,000 square feet. Additionally, UPSwill develop 5.4 acres at the facility to construct employee parking, a fuel facility and truckwash facility. In expanding the facility, the company will install technology to make the loadingand unloading of packages easier and accelerate the facility’s sorting capacity from 6,000 piecesper hour to 13,000 per hour.

“This new building expansion, which is expected to double the size of the current facility,will allow UPS to continue to serve the growing needs of customers on Florida’s southwest coast,”said William N. Smith, UPS vice president and chief operating officer for UPS’s South FloridaDistrict. “Ft. Myers is an important link in our service chain that stretches up and down the Gulfcoast.”

The expanded UPS facility will also feature a modern customer counter inside to handle anycustomer shipping needs.
