DHL targets young professionals with Discover Logistics initiative

DHL initiative "Discover Logistics"

DHL today launched its international initiative “Discover Logistics” designed to open up the worldof logistics to young professionals. The launch coincided with the inaugural nationwide Logistics

Day in Germany.

The aim of the initiative is to make the fast-growing logistics industry accessible to asmany young people as possible and inform them about the international career prospects especiallyfor students, graduates and young professionals which the logistics industry offers, DHL stated.

“As the world’s largest logistics group, we offer challenging and trail-blazing managementtasks on a global scale. And this is exactly what the “Discover Logistics” initiative covers,” saidFrank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post World Net. The initiative is under the patronage of GermanForeign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

On the “Discover Logistics” internet portal (dhl-discoverlogistics.com), potential managerscan sign up for the world’s first logistics business simulation “DHL Fast Forward – The firstworldwide Logistics Business Simulation” and get started individually on the tasks from the game’sfirst level. The best participants worldwide are grouped into international management teams offive players, and are set the task of developing a virtual logistics company into a market leaderwithin ten weeks. This requires logistics expertise, management talent and inter-cultural skills inequal measure.

For the final level of the game, DHL will invite the best teams to Deutsche Post World Net’sBonn headquarters in January 2009 to optimise their virtual company’s service quality, customerorientation and innovative ability. The winners will receive attractive prizes with a total valueof over €50.000, including management training, travel vouchers and VIP tickets to top logisticsprojects like Formula 1 events and IMG Fashion Weeks.

During the business simulation, teams are assessed by a top-class jury from the worlds ofbusiness, science and media.

The Discover Logistics portal also provides a wide range of logistics expertise, films aboutDHL projects and other relevant information.
