At UPS, Frank Sportolari has been appointed as country manager of UPS Italy. The US-bornmanager had previously held various senor positions at UPS in Europe before becoming vice-presidentin strategy for UPS Europe in 2004. Sportolari will be responsible for growing UPS’s business inItaly.
In Northern Europe/Baltics, DHL Express appointed Martin Södergard as the new head of theunit in charge of northern Europe and the Baltics. Södergard, who has been with DHL since 1986,replaces Per Utnegard who joined Swissport International. Södergard said he wants to turn DHLExpress into a leading logistics company in northern Europe. This will see investments that willmake the company more accessible for private customers and improve its service.
DHL Express appointed five new managers for its Middle East Commercial team to furtherconsolidate its footprint in the region and to develop expert solutions tailored to specificindustry sectors. The five high level appointees are expected to strengthen the team in the areasof pharmaceuticals, technology, oil and gas, consumer and product and business development.
Joining the Global Multi-National Customers (MNC) Team, Turgay Sarikaya is now responsiblefor services to the High Technology sector. He has served DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding formany years in various management roles including station management, new product implementation,sales and business development.
Akin Sawyerr has been appointed as MNC Manager, Life Sciences and Consumer Products. Hebrings a wealth of experience and consummate knowledge in the healthcare industry to his new role.Sawyerr previously worked with DHL Exel Supply Chain in the UK, handling the multi-billion dollarNational Health Service contract.
Dirk Van Doorn who has charted a successful career in business development in the region overthe past 11 years, has joined the Middle East Commercial Team as Global Customer Solutions Managerand Express Freight and Logistics Manager. Van Doorn’s extensive logistics knowledge and broadcustomer contacts have been instrumental in securing large regional contracts.
Oil and Gas specialist James Edgeworth has joined DHL with 8 years experience in the expressarena. Edgeworth has been developing senior level relationships with key decision makers of multinational organisations throughout the middle-east and is specialised in concluding high levelnegotiations and creating value propositions that lead to large scale profitable revenuegeneration.
Peter Heredia has taken on the position of Sales Development Manager for the Middle Eastafter a successful sales career with DHL, primarily in the UAE and Australia. He has held a numberof sales management roles, most recently as Sales Development Manager in the UAE.
Meanwhile, TNT Express France has announced the appointment of François Baret as newoperational manager. After working successfully in several transport companies, Francois Baretjoined TNT Express France as regional manager for international transport activities in 1998 beforetaking on a leading position in operations in 2004.
DPD Polska has announced the appointment of Izabella Dessoulavy-Gladysz as Director of Salesand Marketing. Dessoulavy-Gladysz will be responsible for all aspects of brand building, publicrelations and internal communications. She worked in DHL Express Poland as Head of Public Relationsand Communications Manager until 2007. She replaces Olga Kozierowska-Skwarlo who has transferred toGeoPost as Corporate Communications and Marketing Director for Central and Eastern Europe.
