UPS plans to enhance its ground capability in China by opening 20 more branches by the end of nextyear, according to the Chinese newspaper Shanghai Daily.
Half of the branches will open in 10 cities, including Zhuhai, Nantong, Wuhan, Shaoxing andWeihai, this year, Sebastian Chan, vice president of UPS China’s supply chain operations, was citedas saying.
In addition, UPS is initially investing $20 million in its new air hub at Shanghai which willbe opened in the fourth quarter of this year, the newspaper reported.
The company has invested a total of US$600 million in China from 2002 to 2007 to boost itscapacity and infrastructure, leading to a 40% growth in cargo volume last year. UPS also launched a210,000 sqm logistic centre in Beijing last June and will offer services for 19 Olympics venues.
