FedEx and DHL expand network in Japan

FedEx opening in Kameyama

FedEx and DHL have continued their expansion in Japan with the opening of new stations.


FedEx Express said it has opened a new station in Sendai City, northern Japan, keeping to itsexpansion plans for five new stations by May 2008. New outlets have already been opened in OkayamaCity, Nagaoka City, and Kameyama City, and another station is planned to open in Shiga prefecture.

“The Sendai facility is the fourth we have opened in Japan this fiscal year,” said MasamichiUjiie, Vice President, North Pacific, FedEx. “The station has been opened in response to customerdemand, and allows us to provide service enhancements to many of our customers in Tohoku area.”

With the new Sendai station, FedEx said it will reduce delivery times by up to one businessday from certain parts of the Miyagi prefecture. For example, shipments, which could previouslyonly make the next-day flight, can now be loaded on the same-day flight if called in before 11a.m.. All shipments passing through the new station are sent to Narita International Airport andloaded on to FedEx planes following customs clearance.

Meanwhile, DHL announced the opening of two new package drop-off centers in central Tokyo,Japan, established under a business entrustment agreement with KNT Tourist Co., Ltd., a travelagency operated by Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd.

The two new DHL Express Centers are located at the sales offices of KNT Tourist Kodemma-choand Kayaba-cho enabling DHL account holders to drop off documents and packages. The new centersalso offer the DHL Simple Pack service, an easy-to-use service featuring a simplified feestructure.
