UPS has announced an upgrading of its US ground package operations by accelerating packagemovements between more than 12 million ZIP code pairings by one day or more. Regular shipping
customers in eight key states and more than 70 markets will benefit from the delivery timespeed-up.More than 75,000 packages nationwide will speed up every day, and about half a millioncustomers will benefit from the faster service, UPS said. Faster deliveries will benefit dailypackage pick-up customers as well as general consumers shipping via UPS.com, The UPS Store and MailBoxes Etc.
Examples of faster service included shipments between Pittsburgh and Dallas in two businessdays instead of four, and between Denver and Philadelphia in three business days rather than five.UPS is putting ground network upgrades in place in Colorado, Connecticut, Minnesota, Pittsburgh,Montana, North Dakota, western Nebraska, and Wyoming.
Alan Gershenhorn, UPS senior vice president for worldwide sales and marketing, commented:“Accelerated ground service means customers can get to market faster, turn inventory quicker andimprove customer service.” The enhancements follow transit time improvements made in 2006 thathelped more than 1.2 million customers in 11 metropolitan areas.
