More Asian express and parcel companies are expanding their international business by striking upregional partnerships.
Japan’s Fukuyama Transporting, which has a substantial domestic express business, and majorChinese firm Chengtong Group have agreed an in-depth strategic alliance, according to Japanesemedia reports. They will initially provide local collection and distribution services foreach other, and may later set up a joint venture to operate logistics centres in China for Japanesefirms.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Sagawa Express, the country’s second-largest parcel carrier, has continuedits international expansion by signing a deal with Malaysian firm City-Link Express. Each partnerwill provide local collection of export shipments and distribution of imports for the other.
City-Link expects to quadruple its present volume of 22,000 exports from Malaysia to China,the Business Times newspaper reported. The company, which already has partnerships throughout Asia,hopes to conclude a deal with a European company in March.
In spring 2007, SG Holdings, the parent company of Sagawa Express, unveiled a new medium-termstrategy focused on international expansion through the Sagawa Global Logistics subsidiary anddevelopment of its currently small logistics business. It has set up a bilateral deal with ChinaPost and bought a small firm in Singapore last autumn.
