DHL announced today it will roll out 1,000 “parcel-boxes” for consumers to post their parcelsacross Germany by mid-2008.
DHL will install about 70 “postboxes for parcels” a week, initially in front of Postbankbranches and then close to highly-frequented buildings such as supermarkets, railway stations andcity centre shopping centres. The first cities will be Bonn, Dortmund and Frankfurt.
“The very positive reaction during the test phase last year strengthened our decision tointroduce parcel-boxes throughout Germany,” commented Steffen Frankenberg, project manager at DHLParcel Germany. Customer feedback had helped to improve the functionality of the parcel-boxes, henoted. Tests of the parcel-boxes started in autumn 2006.
The new parcel-box network, together with the 13,500 Deutsche Post branches and 900 DHLPackstations, give Deutsche Post World Net the densest network in Germany. A further 1,500Packstations are planned by end-2009, giving the group a total of nearly 17,000 parcel drop-offpoints.
