Business Direct Group, the British in-night distribution provider and operator of the ParcelXchangeintelligent “drop-box” logistics solution, has signed its first international licence of the
ParcelXchange service with DHLSame Day Ireland.DHL Same Day plans to use a network of ParcelXchanges in Ireland for in-night deliveries forfield service engineers and B2B sameday solutions. The ParcelXchange boxes offer higher levels ofcustomer service whilst permitting consolidation of deliveries and cost reduction in the supplychain, Business Direct Group said in a statement.
ParcelXchange is a ‘virtual depot’ network of 4000 fully automated, strategically placedintelligent drop boxes. ParcelXchanges are normally located on petrol station forecourts providingfield based personnel with 24/7 access to highly secure, visible sites with easy vehicle access.Working in the same manner as an ATM – with card and PIN number, the ParcelXchange intelligent dropboxes network is currently used by a growing number of business clients principally to maintain anaccurate delivery of products/components between users throughout the UK.

Business Direct said that its worldwide ParcelXchange licensing business has been underdevelopment since February 2007, under the direction of Tim Houstoun, and was launched officiallyin October 2007. Considerable interest has been expressed by national Post Offices and majorlogistics companies in many countries around the world. Trials are currently taking place inmainland Europe and East Asia and discussions are being held with regard to several otherterritories, it pointed out.
