DHL Express expands in Korea, steps up CSR in Asia

DHL Express last month undertook several measures in Asia Pacific to expandits network and increase its corporate and social responsibility activities.

 

In Korea, DHL opened a new service center in Suwon to strengthen its networkin Gyeonggi Province. At the official opening ceremony, the company emphasized its ongoing plans toimprove its domestic network infrastructure. DHL Express Korea has been making continuousinvestments in Korea in recent years, opening ten new and refurbished service centers during thepast two years in order to provide more efficient services to its customers.

In Hong Kong, DHL Express has relocated its office to Enterprise Square Five,MegaBox, in Kowloon Bay. The move, which has further enhanced business synergies across DHLExpress, plays an important role in building DHL’s capacity to benefit from the growth in theregion’s trade. Around 800 DHL employees made the move to the new premises, which occupy a grossarea of about 120,000 square feet.

Separately, DHL Hong Kong has signed the Occupational Safety Charter, a jointinitiative of the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Council and the Labor Department,highlighting the company’s commitment to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workenvironment for employees at the Central Asia Hub. DHL said it is the first company in the expressindustry to sign the Charter. Committing to the Charter was a key part of the Central Asia Hub’s ‘Safety and Health Week’, held between 10 -14 December.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, DHL together with UNICEF (United Nations Children’sFund) Indonesia have launched their “A Gift that Cares” program to raise funds for theunderprivileged children of Indonesia. This initiative was part of a global long-term strategicpartnership between Deutsche Post World Net, DHL’s parent company, and UNICEF that aims to supportUNICEF’s worldwide efforts to reduce child mortality.

In Singapore, DHL partnered with theSingapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC) to deliver the sports attire of Singapore’s nationalathletes, including the SEA Games athletes, to refugees in Moldova. This initiative supports theGiving is Winning program, a joint effort by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and theUnited Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to encourage athletes and officials to donatetheir clothing to refugee camps worldwide. As Official Logistics Provider of the Giving is Winningprogram in
Singapore, DHL was responsible for delivering the athletes’ attire totaling up to 725kg toMoldova.
