Special logistics provider trans-o-flex is launching a new temperature-controlled service forhigh-quality and sensitive goods in a temperature range between 8 and 25°C. The firm claims to

be the first logistic services provider in Germany with a modular system of services that enablesits customers to completely meet the tightened legal provisions made on the pharmaceuticalindustry.

In January 2008, the company will present an active temperature control system forhigh-quality and extremely sensitive goods that covers the range of between 8 and 25°C. Followingits introduction in Germany, the new service, presented as ThermoControl premium, will also beoffered gradually abroad. The handling and transport of the goods will exclusively take place intemperature-controlled terminals and vehicles. The temperature is subject to constant measurement, control, monitoring and documentation.

“Thus, it is now possible that dispatchers can keep their products withinthe so-called room temperature range during the entire supply chain”, says Thomas Mohorn, DirectorSales & Marketing. “Especially our customers in the pharmaceutical industry need thiscustomised solution in order to meet legal provisions and avoid liability risks”.

Currently, trans-o-flex already takes over the transportation of goods that have to be storedat temperatures ranging from between plus 2° and 8°C. This special service is offered bytrans-o-flex’s ThermoMed subsidiary. “Due to the separate handling of the temperature ranges from2° to 8°C and from 8° to 25°C in two different networks, we can guarantee our customers maximumquality with respect to maintaining the temperature ranges”, explains Mohorn. “Thus, any mixing ormistake of the temperature ranges can be ruled out.” Hence trans-o-flex deliberately decidedagainst the introduction of a fault-prone combined system using multi-chamber vehicles (severaltemperature ranges in one and the same vehicle). Instead, the company chose to use one-chambervehicles in the separate networks of trans-o-flex and ThermoMed.

The development of the new service was driven by the tightened provisions made on thetransportation and storage of pharmaceuticals. In accordance with the German Ordinance on theProduction of Pharmaceuticals and Active Substances (AMWHV), critical parameters, such astemperature and air humidity, have to be measured and documented not only during production andstorage but also over the entire supply chain.
