DHL has expanded its contract with Dutch IT firm Quintiq for a real-time advanced planning &scheduling solution into a worldwide agreement. The new global contract will enable DHL to improve
its dispatch process and customer service around the world. The deal, announced today, extends the existing European contract that was signed earlier inthe year into a global contract. DHL will begin the implementation in Asia-Pacific.
Quintiq said its solution will enable DHL Express to streamline and standardize its dispatchprocess and activities around the globe. Additionally, the solution will reduce the workload ofdispatchers and improve their productivity and also increase tour efficiency.
“Quintiq will become the global standard for planning and dispatching for DHL Express,”commented Charlie Dobbie, EVP Global Network Operations at DHL Express. “This will enable us tofurther consolidate and reduce operating cost of systems, procedures and pick-up-and-delivery.”
DHL Express has particularly complex dispatch needs that require coordination of the pick-upand delivery for customers around the world. Its dispatch process includes processing dispatchworkload, daily workload allocation, managing daily tours and allocating daily tour resources. Toimprove the productivity of its PUD, DHL Express decided to replace the existing heterogeneouslandscape of solutions and functionalities with one centralized dispatch solution.
The benefits of the Quintiq system are expected to be significant, as the majority of allpick-up and delivery (PUD) workload will be automatically assigned to the correct sector and tour. This will enable dispatchers to focus on exceptions and on the quality of the dispatch operation.
The Quintiq solution will help DHL Express reduce its PUD cost centre by increasing theproductivity of dispatchers and tours through real-time dispatch. Furthermore, the Quintiq planningand scheduling solution will improve service quality by allowing the automated allocation ofbookings to tours and workload exception handling. In addition, IT-related costs will be reducedthrough the use of a common dispatch system and by consolidating all data in a single standardizeddatabase.
“DHL Express’ decision to implement Quintiq worldwide is a sign of confidence in our abilityto help DHL achieve its strategic goals”, said Arjen Heeres, COO at Quintiq. The Dutch firm, established in 1997 and with subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and the USA, provides advanced planning, scheduling and supply chain management solutions.
