Deutsche Post holds mail prices stable in 2008

Prices for the domestic and international dispatch of letter mail and postcards by Deutsche Postwill remain unchanged in the coming year. The German postal regulator, the Federal Network Agency,

has approved the pricing proposal of Deutsche Post.

After a price reduction in 2003, postage for a standard letter in Germany has remained stableat 55 cents for the sixth year in a row now – with no change in the high quality of the transittimes, Deutsche Post said in a statement. Within Germany, 95 out of 100 items posted before thelast pick-up time of the respective mailbox will reach their recipients on the next working day.

Germany is one of only four European countries in which letter mail prices, adjusted forinflation, have decreased since 1996. In contrast, the actual European average price for thestandard domestic letter has risen during this time by 37%, Deutsche Post said.
