FedEx wins awards and delivers Christmas trees to US troops

FedEx has picked up two awards  for customer service and IT, and also kicked off its annual “Trees for Troops” programme, delivering Christmas trees to US troops at home and abroad.



FedEx Express Canada won the “Best Contact Center World Award 2007” for mid-size call centersfrom ContactCenterWorld.com, out of 600 entrants from around the world. An international panel ofjudges commended the company for its ability to deliver an outstanding customer experience byfocusing on the performance culture of its employees.

“FedEx has a people-first philosophy. Because of this philosophy, FedEx understands the needsof customers and has the infrastructure, people and culture necessary to deliver an outstandingexperience across all borders,” said Patsy Bertoia, managing director, Customer Service at FedExExpress Canada. 

Separately, FedEx Services won an award for its RampView software application at the IDG’sInfoWorld 100 Most Innovative Corporate IT Solutions for 2007. The annual awards honour IT projectsthat demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goalsand stretch beyond the typical, off-the-shelf solution. Nominations were submitted by InfoWorldreaders, technology partners, and end-user companies.

FedEx’ RampView is a Java-based application that allows the company to monitor key aspects ofits aircraft launch operation by evaluating data from 26 FedEx operational apps, as well as fromthe FAA, to help keep more than 1,000 flights per day on schedule.

Meanwhile, FedEx and Christmas SPIRIT Foundation started their annual Trees for Troopsprogram in Columbus, Ohio, with the pickup of 300 trees to be delivered to active service membersand their families stationed overseas. In the coming weeks, tree growers, retailers and FedEx willbe donating and delivering approximately 20,000 trees to more than 35 bases in the United Statesand overseas.

The programme has grown rapidly since its inception in 2005, when 4,300 trees were deliveredto troops and military families in the US and overseas. Last year, FedEx Express and FedEx Freightdonated all transportation and logistical services to collect and deliver almost 12,000 trees to 25military bases. This year, the public will have opportunities to participate by purchasing treesfor sale at 40 retail locations nationally, FedEx said.
