TNT Express and Hong Kong Post have signed a strategic partnership agreement to provide expressservices to India and jointly target other markets, trade newspaper Cargonews Asia has reported.
Under the deal, the two companies will provide the Speedpost FreightPlus service, whichenables Hongkong Post to deliver items to India in two to three days instead of five to six days asin the past. The service will target shipments from Hong Kong, including goods originating inmainland China.
Hongkong Post will provide collection and customer services, while TNT will handleinternational transportation and final delivery in India through its subsidiary Speedage. The twocompanies are also considering co-branding initiatives to provide time-definite and premiumservices for existing customers, Cargonews Asia said.
Ambrose Linn, managing director of TNT Express Worldwide (HK), was cited as saying that ifthe India business developed successfully, the two organisations could explore other export marketssuch as the Middle East, South Africa, Eastern Europe and Russia. TNT already has cooperationagreements with other postal organisations, including China Post.
Under its existing Speedpost service, Hong Kong Post offers express delivery of parcels andfreight shipments to mainland China and destinations around the world. The Speedpost Freightservice targets international air freight shipments.
