A new international studies and research centre at the University of North Carolina funded by a $5million FedEx donation and by other donors has been formally dedicated in a naming ceremony.
The FedEx Global Education Center, which opened last spring, was named after the globalexpress and logistics group in recognition of its financing of the establishment which brings theuniversity’s international studies and research under one roof, as well as various studentservices. The building cost a total of $39 million.
Speakers at the dedication ceremony at the annual University Day included FedEx chairman FredSmith and FedEx Express president and CEO, Dave Bronczek, FedEx said in a statement.
Speaking last year at the time the donation was announced, Fred Smith said: “This gift ispart of a broader commitment by FedEx to North Carolina, its people and its economy. The buildingdirectly aligns with our interests in advancing education and academic programs in theinternational arena and will help the university in its efforts to enhance North Carolina’s abilityto thrive in a global economy.”
FedEx is also planning to build a hub in Greensboro, North Carolina.
