Tetra Pak to use DHL GoGreen service for Swedish express shipments

DHL

Swedish-based international packaging group Tetra Pak has signed up to ship all its expressshipments from Sweden through DHL’s carbon-neutral shipping service GoGreen.

The move is the first stage of a broad cooperation in the environmental field. The twocompanies have collaborated closely and very successfully in transportation for almost thirtyyears, DHL pointed out in a statement.

DHL will calculate the CO2 emissions generated by transporting the Tetra Pak shipments fromSweden to destinations around the world, and charge the customer a “green premium” of 2% on top ofthe normal agreed price. This sum will then be re-invested into environmental projects withpositive climatic effects to compensate for the emissions.

“Our largest express stream is out of Sweden, which makes it natural to test GOGREEN herefirst. In the fall, we will start to evaluate the environmental cooperation with DHL, and if allgoes well, we expect to expand our commitment to GOGREEN,” said Johan Borglin, the buyer at TetraPak.

For Tetra Pak, environmental investments are an important issue within the company. “As TetraPak grows, so we transport more and more goods. We want to use forwarders who can help us to growwithout increasing our carbon dioxide emissions. In this situation, GOGREEN is seen as a naturalstep. For ten years now, we have ranked forwarders, and companies that do not manage to live up toour high environmental standards are automatically dropped,” says Agneta Melin, Tetra Pak’senvironmental manager for the Nordic region and the Baltic republics.
