UPS introduces paperless international shipping

UPS said it had become the first carrier to introduce a “paperless” international shipping optionwhen it launched its new UPS Paperless Invoice service this week.



The US company has also created an international returns service to 98 countries –International UPS Returns – and says the new products will make it easier for clients to expand tonew markets worldwide.

“This is truly a breakthrough for our customers when you look at what goes into cross-bordershipping today,” said Kurt Kuehn, UPS senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing.

“Businesses of all sizes count on UPS to simplify international shipping and optimize theirsupply chains and thanks to the UPS technology now available, we’re dramatically changing thefuture of global shipping.”

UPS Paperless Invoice allows shipments to clear customs using electronic data in place oferror-prone paper forms.

“UPS Paperless Invoice saves time, money and trees,” said Kuehn. “It saves our customers timeand resources by reducing office supplies and staff time associated with customs paperwork. It alsogives our customers an easy, painless way to make a positive environmental impact by eliminatingpaper.”

Under UPS Returns, package recipients receive the international return label and commercialinvoice via e-mail, local post or from a UPS driver picking up the return package.

The service will help improve a company’s cash flow through the faster return of goods whilereducing support costs (phone centres or help desks) for returns, UPS said.
