DHL Express is issuing its couriers in the Benelux states with new handheld terminals as part of aEurope-wide rollout of the new technology.
The handheld terminal that has been selected is the European Motorola HCe700 which enablesDHL delivery staff to transmit shipment details directly via GPRS into the company’s centraltracking system.
More than 1,900 new Motorola scanners will be put into use at 23 DHL branches in the Benelux.Throughout Europe, DHL will put a total of more than 15.000 Motorola scanners into use.
Shipments can be followed right from the time of pick up using DHL’s advanced track &trace system. Confirmation receipt of telephone transfers of cash on delivery amounts can be putstraight through to the terminal, enabling shipments to be delivered even faster and moreefficiently, DHL Benelux announced.
With the use of the Motorola HCe700, DHL is implementing a considerable upgrade of theavailable technology. The Motorola HCe700 has been specifically designed for the logistics industryand is equipped with a colour screen, two-dimensional barcode scanner, Bluetooth, GSM and GPRS, abuilt-in WLAN card and Windows Mobile platform.
