DHL Italy signs up BT to manage its data network

DHL Italy and the UK’s BT communications group have signed an agreement for BT Italy to manage anddevelop the express company’s data transmission network, connecting its more than 180 Italian

offices and seven contact centres, as well as providing voice services.

Under the three-year contract, BT Italy is to change all the courier’s conventional telephonetechnology in Italy to use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). It will supply 3,000next-generation IP phones.
 
DHL will also benefit from a new contact centre platform – developed by BT with Cisco – whichwill be able to manage more than 1,100 express operator desks spread throughout the country.

“The managed service solution is BT Italy’s response to our needs for technologicalinnovation and communication cost reduction”, said Fausto Forti, CEO for DHL Express Italy.

“The Italian project, which was approved by Deutsche Post World Net’s central office, will befollowed up closely for possible extensions,” Forti added.
