TNT links Singapore and Penang

TNT brought the ambition of a pan-Asian road network a step further by todayannouncing a new route between Singapore and Penang, in Malaysia, for high-value shipments such as

electronic goods.

The group said the move would service exporters and importers in the citiesand offer better synergies in supply chain management than currently exist.

“This tailored service is set to contribute a further 30% growth to volumes onthe Asia Road Network, which has already enjoyed double-digit growth in overall volumes since itslaunch in 2005,” TNT said.

TNT extended its network into Vietnam in May through a EUR 6 millioninvestment and aims to link China and South-East Asia by road by the end of this year.

The Asia road network was launched at the end of 2005 to connect Malaysia,Singapore and Thailand, and later extended into Cambodia in an overall EUR 2 million investment.Once completed, it will cover almost 60% of the region and link over 120 cities across 4,000kilometres, TNT says.

The company expects significant demand for the newly announced service, whichwill ply the Singapore-Penang route five times per week. “It will boast faster delivery times of upto 30% where businesses can now look forward to next-day delivery of shipments,” said Onno Boots,regional managing director of TNT south-east Asia.
