A Pakistan equality campaigner has come first in DHL’s inaugural Young Entrepreneurs forSustainability (YES) award for helping women in her country fight poverty.
Aysha Saifuddin was named by the carrier as the leading social entrepreneur among five AsiaPacific countries participating in the awards, which are part of DHL’s community investmentprogramme, and won $10,000. Four other finalists won $5,000.
Announcing the award, DHL said social entrepreneurs could play an instrumental role infinding innovative solutions to social problems and removing barriers to growth.
While social entrepreneurship is a prevalent concept in Europe and North America, it is stilla nascent development in Asia Pacific, the carrier said.
“By initiating the YES Awards, DHL hopes to provide an annual platform for youngentrepreneurs to share their innovative ideas to improve the people’s lives in their societies,”said Dan McHugh, acting CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific.
With the success of the inaugural awards, we hope to encourage even more participation fromyoung business leaders next year,” he added.
