Expanding Swedish postal operator Posten announced a 30% rise in mid-year operating earningsyesterday, to SEK 1.39 billion (EUR 148 million) from SEK 1.07 billion (EUR 114.2 million) during
the same period in 2006.Net earnings increased 21% to SEK 1.04 billion (EUR 111 million) and net sales by 15% to overSEK 15 billion (EUR 1.6 billion).
“We are especially pleased that our logistics operations have defied increasingly toughinternational competition to grow a full 12% during the year’s first six months,” said CEO ErikOlsson.
“We can clearly see that our rationalisation and specialisation activities have had thenecessary effects. With continued growth maintaining profitability we continue to develop into themost self-evident strategic partner for companies looking for Nordic logistics solutions,” headded.
Last week the group announced an expansion in Norway with the opening of 700 new MyPackparcel collection points.
The Swedish postal market has been fully deregulated since 1993. Posten believesliberalisation of the 27-nation EU market will provide the group with increasing exploitation ofopportunities.
It is also seeking to exploit information technology for mail solutions following theacquisition last year of IT business information company Strålfors.
