DHL has gained a “multi-million dollar” international express contract with internationalelectronics manufacturer Celestica Inc for shipments within North America and on intercontinental
traffic lanes.Under the deal, Celestica will use DHL as its carrier of choice for express shipping withinNorth America, and from North America to Asia and Europe, to support its global manufacturingand supply chain network. Celestica selected DHL following feedback from field staff who usedseveral major carriers, DHL stated.
Celestica, with revenues of $8.8 billion in 2006 and some 40,000 staff, supplies outsourcedelectronics manufacturing services to major companies including Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, IBM,Lucent, Motorola and Sun Microsystems.
DHL will be transporting telecommunications and electronics components, and finished goodsto, from, and between Celestica factories, manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and consolidationpoints, as well as drop-shipping direct to customers. Celestica has manufacturing facilities allover the world, including in Asia, Europe and Latin America.
DHL has also been named the primary carrier for Celestica’s express shipments from NorthAmerica to Asia and Europe where the company has a large network of manufacturing and warehousefacilities. DHL express services will be used to help streamline the flow of Celestica products inthese regions of the world from suppliers to manufacturing and on to the end consumer.
