FedEx has dropped its Russian partner Emex and signed a new Global Service Partner (GSP) contractwith transport group Major. Russia is developing into a more important market for FedEx.
“Both parties decided to go their separate ways,” Michael Mühlberger, FedEx Express VicePresident Operations Central and Eastern Europe, told CEP-Research in an interview. Emex, asubsidiary of Swiss-based group M&M, had earlier this year announced major expansion plans.
The new Russian GSP is Major Express, the express division of the freight transport groupMajor and founded in 2003. The Major group, created in 1998, is represented all over Russia with 90regional offices and 2,500 sites, and offers a wide range of freight transport by road, rail, airand sea. According to information on its website, Major is an exclusive partner of air freightforwarder Expeditors, gained an ISO 2001 certificate in 2006 and joined FIATA and IATA in February2007.
FedEx would work with Major and also other Russian transport firms to broaden its network inthe country, Mühlberger said. “The Russian domestic market is large and becoming more important.Russia is certainly one of the markets that we will be looking at with more interest in future,” hecommented.
