B2C parcels key topic at UK express conference

The growth in home deliveries of parcels was one of the key topics at last month’s UK ExpressDelivery Conference in London, organiser Triangle said. More than 300 delegates attended the event.



B2C companies Home Delivery Network and Parcelnet each gave interesting insights to adistribution partnership approach through joint presentations with one of their major customers.Other sessions addressed how a partnership approach could help through driving out costs,developing new services and conquering the Christmas peak. Environmental issues were also the focusof a presentation, Triangle said.

Key speakers included the newly appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, TheresaVilliers, David Smith (Parcelforce Worldwide MD), Neil Ashworth (Supply Chain Director, TescoDirect) and Nick Parkes (European Transport Director, Technicolor). Participants in the Q&Asession included Carole Woodhead (Parcelnet MD), Walter Blackwood (Home Delivery Network MD) andSteve Allen (Nightfreight CEO).

Looking ahead to future events, Triangle said that this year’s UK Mail Show, in London onOctober 30-31, would focus on the challenges and opportunities resulting from new communicationstechnologies and environmental concerns, along with the latest developments and issues in thefully-liberalised British mail market.

The 2008 World Mail & Express Americas conference will move to Mexico, taking place inPuerto Vallarta on 25-26 February 2008, Triangle announced. The event, covering north, south &central America and the Caribbean, will look at competition and collaboration, with a strong focuson ‘working together’.
