19 express workers among Brazil plane crash casualties

Two TAM Express workers died and 17 were taken to hospital in this week’s airline crash at SaoPaulo’s Congonhas airport.



Another five employees of the Brazilian express company are missing, as well as three serviceproviders also working in the company’s building when the TAM Airlines jet crashed into it killing200 people.

“The other employees who were in the TAM Express building at the moment of the accident werelocated and are doing well,” said the company in a statement on its web site.

“The company reiterates that it is rendering all assistance necessary for the hospitalisedcollaborators and for the relatives of the victims and is concentrating efforts to locate those whoare still missing with support of the Fire Brigade, the Civil Defence and authorities,” it added.

Ten of the injured workers have been discharged from hospital, while seven remain there.

There are mounting calls for the airport to be closed until the runways, which have beencriticised for being too short, are renovated.
