SingPost expands postal services to Thailand

Singapore Post, whose national monopoly ended earlier this year, has continued to expand across theAsian region by setting up a strategic joint venture in Thailand.



Through its subsidiary DataPost, which provides printing, enveloping and postal services inSingapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines, SingPost has signed a joint venture agreementwith Thai British Security Printing Public Company Limited (TBSP), a subsidiary of SCG Paper.

The new company, based in Bangkok and named Thai British DPost Company Limited, is to providelaser printing and enveloping of statements, bills and invoices, as well as related value-addedservices. DataPost will hold a 49% stake and TBSP 51%.

Since SingPost’s national monopoly status ran out on 31 March this year, it has been lookingto build revenues from a diverse region-wide portfolio.

DataPost is now a major player in laser printing and enveloping services in the
Asean region. Besides Singapore and Thailand, it also has presence in Malaysia (through eP2MServices) and the Philippines (ePDS Inc.).

Earlier this year, DataPost set up a subsidiary, DataPost (HK) Pte Limited, to provideone-stop services ranging from electronic data printing to enveloping and posting in Hong Kong.

SingPost also won a World Mail Award this year for quality of service. It also recently wonthe Universal Postal Union’s EMS Cooperative Certification Gold Level Award by for its SpeedpostWorldwide courier service.

In Singapore, SingPost also owns one of the largest retail distribution networks through itstri-channel platform of post offices, Self-service Automated Machines (SAMs) and vPOST, itsinternet portal.
