DHL Express has opened a SGD 9 million (EUR 4.34 million) new service centre in Singapore, to markthe company’s 35 years in the country.
The 7,100 sqm Changi South “eXpo” centre is the largest DHL Express has in the country andcan handle over 240,000 shipments per month, twice the capacity of DHL Express’ other centres inSingapore.
“Singapore registered a significant growth last year in terms of the value of total importsand exports to the rest of the world,” said Yasmin Aladad Khan, senior vice-president for DHLExpress in South-East Asia.
“The contribution from the logistics sector to Singapore’s economy is expected to take agreater share from the current 8% to 13%, and we cannot emphasise enough how integral Singapore isfor DHL’s long-term growth. DHL is committed to investing here to meet the continual growth inSingapore’s logistics industry,” she added.
Singapore is one of DHL’s major logistics hubs in Asia Pacific and, with the opening of thenew service centre, DHL Express Singapore expects to increase its cargo handling capacity to morethan 10.5 million shipments by the year 2011.
Located within the airport vicinity, the “eXpo” service centre adds to DHL Express’ fourother service centres in Airport Cargo Road, Paya Lebar, Jurong and Tanjong Pagar. All thefacilities have Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Class A certification.
