Blue Dart adds new freighter

DHL’s Indian express subsidiary Blue Dart is to add a new freighter in October – its seventh – in abid to respond to the increasingly competitive Indian market.



The Boeing 757 will increase the company’s capacity to 300 tonnes and is currently beingconverted into a freight aircraft by Precision Conversions, the Economic Times of India reports.

“The Precision Conversions 757-200PCF, with its weight enhancements, is the right product atthe right time to support our expanding global operations, especially in India,” DHL airlinedirector Gordon Olafson told the newspaper.

DHL, which bought Blue Dart, the Indian market leader, in 2004 and now holds 81% of thecompany, has continued to invest in it, opening new air hubs at key locations. This year, Blue Dartsaid it would to open 57 new service and operational facilities.

Blue Dart made a net profit of INR 502 million (EUR 8.6 million) last year on sales of INR6.7 billion (EUR 115 million).
