UK transport software company, NetDespatch, and British Telecom have combined to launch a newhandheld wireless communications system for delivery drivers and couriers.
BT-NetDespatch Mobility is part of a suite of web-based software designed to improve businessefficiency and profitability, allowing couriers to capture signatures and provide real-time Proofof Delivery using browser-equipped GPRS handheld computers.
“Improving the quality and timeliness of information for mobile workers is a priority for allbusinesses, but particularly in the distribution and logistics sector,” said Paul Cleaver, generalmanager for field force automation at BT Global Services.
“Poor communication between employees on the road and those in the office is a huge barrierto operating effectively and with today’s wireless technology this simply shouldn’t be happening.”
NetDespatch provides system design, development, hosting, management, web-basedadministration, support, airtime and the handheld devices for the new solution.
It gives a wireless data communication link between remote workers and those in the office,offering live access to the full range of NetDespatch hosted applications, the company said in arelease.
