Gati opens Bangalore warehouse for express goods

Indian express distribution and supply chain company Gati has opened a major express distributioncentre near Bangalore under its $100 million, three-year expansion programme. It plans a network of

19 express distribution centres (EDC) across India by 2009.  

Gati said that it has opened a new EDC in Peenya, near Bangalore. Spread over an area ofthree acres, it provides a total storage capacity of 250,000 sq ft. The automated warehouse offersmultiple levels of storage, sorting, pick pack facility with racking and security systems, materialhandling equipment and an online warehouse management system.

Meanwhile, the company has also acquired land in Nagpur, central India, to set up its centraldistribution centre.

Gati MD and CEO Mahendra Agarwal said: “The EDC concept goes beyond providing a plain storagesolution and focuses on enabling companies to manage inventories at multiple locations from theiroffices and provides them with global supply visibility and maximum efficiency for competitiveadvantage.”
