Deutsche Post announced today that it will open some 600 new-style retail outlets in Germany thisyear, boosting the size of its network to over 13,000 locations. This will restore its position as
having Germany’s largest postal and parcel network, ahead of Hermes.Deutsche Post said that following trials in Dortmund and Bonn, Postpoint agencies would beextended throughout the country by the end of the year. Postpoints are targeted mostly at privatehouseholds, and offer mail and parcel services as well as selling core consumer products such asstamps.
The Postpoints will be located in retail outlets that operate normal shop opening hours. Theexact locations will be disclosed in September once negotiations with retail partners are complete,Deutsche Post said.
The state postal operator said the new-style retail outlets would bring its services closerto the customer, make them more accessible and reduce waiting times, all of which would help tocounter growing competition. Customer response and satisfaction, as well as the quality andcost-efficiency of the new sales outlets will all be measured.
The Postpoint pilot project is one of the initiatives launched under the “First Choice”worldwide quality programme announced last year.
