Saudi Arabia is to be the venue of a new world congress later this year bringing together postaloperators from across the world with leading IT companies, with a view to answering the technology
needs of the industry in the years to come.Sponsored by Saudi Post, top global tech firms such as Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, HewlettPackard, Cisco and Computer Associates will be represented at a senior level at the congress, totake place at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah on 14-15 November.
“PosTech 2007 is the first global conference focusing on the challenges and opportunitiespresented by technology for the coming years,” said Neil Jackson, chief executive of TriangleManagement Services, which is organising the congress.
“This is an opportunity to understand the key challenges for the postal industry with some ofthe leaders, key suppliers, legislators and postal operators,” he added.
Despite employing more than five million people and accounting for an average of 2% of GDP aspart of the national and global communications infrastructure, most postal authorities have nothistorically invested heavily in technology, said Triangle.
With the advent of privatisation and market liberalisation, however, postal operators werebeing forced to respond to the threats and opportunities presented by technology.
PosTech 2007 is to have two separate elements: one dealing with global postal technology andthe other with specific technology to the Arab League of Nations, the organisers said.
