TNT Express has launched an “emergency” courier service across Asia bringing down transit timesbetween major cities in some cases to as little as six hours.
The 24/7, first-available-flight service is currently available in Hong Kong, Japan,Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines – and TNT plans to expand the serviceto China, Korea and Taiwan by the end of this year.
This week, TNT Emergency Express was launched in Malaysia, where the carrier said it couldpresently reach any major city in South-East Asia within six to 16 hours.
“A normal express consignment typically takes 24 hours,” TNT Malaysia managing director GerryPower told the Malaysian news agency Bernama.
“It is an extension of our existing network capabilities within the country and the region. It ensures that we will be able to meet urgent delivery requirements, no matter how late requestsmay be.”
The new service is to meet the demand for speedier express service while maintaining shorterbusiness cycles and low downtimes to avoid holding inventory costs and obsolete products, TNTExpress said in a statement.
TNT launched the service early this year to respond to the demand from hi-tech industries toship just-in-time spare parts around the continent.
