DHL and TNT are investing millions of euros in new installations in Hungary this year, the country’s media reports.
DHL is building a 2,400 sqm, EUR 4.75 million air cargo cross-docking facility at Sarmellekairport in south-west Hungary, its second following the construction of a similar capability inBudapest. Work on the Sarmellek facility will begin in September, said the Budapest BusinessJournal.
This follows the announcement earlier this year that DHL is building a EUR 17.8 millionlogistics centre in Budapest.
Meanwhile, TNT is spending EUR 1.16 million on a new facility at Budapest’s Ferihegy airportas part of EUR 2.7 million investment in the country in 2007.
Last year, TNT invested EUR 1.5 million in the country and recorded a 61% growth in revenuesto EUR 64 million in 2006, according to the Hungarian Industry Ministry, well over the 15-20%overall express market expansion for the year.
TNT country manager Marton Janosi told journalists that the company was targetingdouble-digit revenue growth again in 2007, despite government austerity measures and growingcompetition.
TNT is using Budapest as a base for deliveries to Bulgaria and Romania and is consideringjoining DHL at Sarmellek, Janosi is reported as saying.
DHL Express’ Hungarian revenues were reported to hav risen by 25% to HUF 9.3 billion (EUR36.8 million) in 2006, from HUF 7.5 billion (EUR 29.7 million) the year before.
