DHL Express opens Sri Lanka centre

DHL Express has opened a new head office and 40,000 square foot service facility in Colombo, thecapital of Sri Lanka, the island off the southern tip of India.



The EUR 2 million facility, which houses 130 administrative and operations staff, wasinaugurated last week by Scott Price, DHL Express CEO for Asia Pacific.

 “(The new centre) underscores DHL’s commitment to its expanding clientele in Sri Lanka,which is an important market for us,” Price said. “We are undoubtedly ahead of the competition interms of capabilities and market share.”

The service centre features state-of-the-art shipment-handling and security systems,including digital surveillance, access control, a quality control centre and largeshipment-processing area, as well as a 24/7 call centre. The new drive-in facility is strategicallylocated in the central business district of Colombo.

Martin Dudek, country manager for DHL Express in Sri Lanka, said: “We are very confidentabout the Sri Lankan market and our performance, having recorded double-digit growth in the lastcouple of years.”

With the centre, DHL Express has invested EUR 4.5 million developing und upgrading itsnetwork infrastructure in Sri Lanka, including a bonded warehouse in Ja-Ela and six servicelocations across the country.
